For me it's a "creative outlet". So, it works well even if I'm not making sawdust. At least I'm thinking about it, reading about it, exchanging some info about it, whatever.
Keeps me out of the pool halls, away from slow gin, and fast women; which also works well for keeping me out of the hospital or the funeral home, should the LOML catch me.
It seems I am in the minority. Woodworking was a hobby that turned into a career.
I have just begun the third full year of self employment as a custom furniture maker. I will not get rich but at least I can earn a living and do something I really enjoy.
Hobby in which I try to get it to make enough money to pay for supplies. Sometimes it's just buying extra wood adn selling it at ebay prices compared to mill prices, othertimes it selling something I actually worked on. Give me 20 years and I might be ready to make it something more.
