Here is a site that I ran across on another site (Penturners.org) that has lots of interesting facts about wood and trees.

He lists 27 woods that have a specific gravity greater than 1.0 (will not float.)

He lists the tallest, largest around, smallest, hardest (snakewood) oldest (a few 4000+) and lots of other facts.

Very interesting reading.

There's a lot in that web site. I just spent a good half an hour reading his articles.
