I just have to gloat it's too good to keep to myself.

Was checking yard sales today and found this monster begging me to take it home. Even if I never use it, it was too good and too BIG to pass up. Honestly didn't know they made a wood cutting Circular Saw this big. It is a 415mm (14") Makita 5402-A and I got it for $20. Tried it ,runs, oiled it and cleaned off the dust from non-use and it runs better. The blade beside it is a 10" from my BT3100 and the thing weighs 33lbs.

Wow. That thing is huge. I want one. I had to read the post twice and look at the pic a couple times to figure out the blade next to it is a 10" blade and not a 7" from another circ saw....

I've seen and indeed used one of those before. If you are doing a post and beam house, a little 6" skilsaw doesn't "cut it", it's time to whip out the big guns... It's great for cutting 4x4 (real 4x4's) and 6x6's. Matter of fact, it's the only way to cut through 6x6's at a job site in one slice. A 10" bladed whatever can't.

It's actually more managable than you might think. I was ready to run the first time I saw someone use it. They spin slower than a small skillsaw, 2200 RPM.

That saw is made for cutting timbers. My uncle used to have one, and I can say BE CAREFUL... The kickback from one of those things can knock you down.

My local hardware has the Makita monster in stock. I was wondering what for myself.
I would think doing fence construction and lanscaping would find it handy.

Makita saw

A nephew used to sell Makita tools and he said the railroad used those to cut the ties, when needed.
As stated, be careful of kickback.
