I had my last day of work yesterday with quite a bit of fanfare. I've been with
my boss for 11 years. I started as a naive junior in college and worked as a
volunteer in his lab for 2 years. He gave me a job out of college and I've been
with him ever since. Only one other person in the lab has been with him longer
by 2 years. It's been a good run. I even moved out to California with the lab
5 1/2 years ago from Philly. Well, it was time to go back home and be near
family again. Plus my wife had some good opportunities in DC after finishing law
school.
It's strange because I have attained what I consider the pinnacle of this career
path and I didn't even have to interview for it. The only jobs I've ever interviewed
for were for summer jobs like McDonald's, etc. And just recently for my new job
in Maryland.
Although I gave my notice 6 months ago, it's weird to know that I worked at
this job for over 1/3 my life and now it's over.
