Poll: What's the longest you've stayed with a boss?

I had my last day of work yesterday with quite a bit of fanfare. I've been with
my boss for 11 years. I started as a naive junior in college and worked as a
volunteer in his lab for 2 years. He gave me a job out of college and I've been
with him ever since. Only one other person in the lab has been with him longer
by 2 years. It's been a good run. I even moved out to California with the lab
5 1/2 years ago from Philly. Well, it was time to go back home and be near
family again. Plus my wife had some good opportunities in DC after finishing law
    school.

It's strange because I have attained what I consider the pinnacle of this career
path and I didn't even have to interview for it. The only jobs I've ever interviewed
for were for summer jobs like McDonald's, etc. And just recently for my new job
    in Maryland.

Although I gave my notice 6 months ago, it's weird to know that I worked at
this job for over 1/3 my life and now it's over.

Good luck in your new job, Paul!

I did 30 years in my last job before retiring, so that's half my life (so far!). The overall employer stayed the same, but due to the way the ranks were structured, I worked for quite a number of senior officers. Had a great time, too.

    Ray.

I was 32 1/2 years with the same boss. I was an auto tech with a Ford dealer and 11 years with a caddy dealer before that. I guess you could say I found a home with my last boss. I retired from the last job six years ago.

I was 22 years with three Greeks (well, it started out as 3, ended as one) in Food Service design. Left in 1993 to take over my FIL's business, and here I remain.
All the luck in the world to ya Paul..

That would be 18 years as of tomorrow with my wife. An employer: 8 1/2 years.

32 1/2 years with the same company. Geeze, I can't begin to guess how many managers I've sent to the looney farm!

November will be 20 years with my favorite Boss, Ms. Tina.

                  How About Shortest

I once had a job for 3 hours, went out to have lunch and never returned. Had to be the worst Ad Agency in all of NYC.

Even the two years I just squandered in Home Depot was preferable to that dungeon.

28 years now with same employer, 22 years at same location, 11 years same boss. Funny thing is, I'm senior to my boss by 2 months. We were apprentices together way back when, I was supervisor for a couple years but I didn't care for it, I bid back down to lowly peon. He got the job after me. He's welcome to it. Wasn't worth the extra money.

6 years now at the largest company I've ever worked for (40-100 employees depending on work load and season). 5 years to the day was my previous best, but I worked weekends for him for another 4 years til he went bankrupt.
Moved here to Edmonton to take this job and have never been happier.
Funny thing, every decent job I've ever had has been for family run business.

I have been in my current job for 10 years, and the last 5 have been with the greatest boss I ever had. He retired in March, as he is losing his battle with kidney cancer.

My big boss and I will be married 35 years on July 10th.
