    That has to be a diesel piston by the shape of it's crown, the cone in the center and the ridges around the edge give it away. probably a 2 stroke because of rings in it's skirt.
    baldwin did make alot of diesel-electrics

      A quick google search shows that Baldwin did make at least some diesel-electrics, although they are much better known for their steam locos, and did not survive very long into the diesel era.

            I'd find a really big lathe to turn the other pieces to match that one rook you've got. Finally, my dreams of an all-weather, backyard chess set would be fulfilled!
