    We're not obsessed at all!!

Are Edmontonians obsessed with hockey right now?
Our local water utility has proof that we are...just enough to cause bladder problems.

Here is a graph of water consumption during games 3,4 & 5 of the Anahiem
series. The green line is normal for that day.

Electrical power usage is also interesting.

The local HL&P rep once gave us a talk about predicting power usage - it's important to have enough generators going to meet the demand that weather changes (very hot or very cold) and sports events bring. Because generators typically take hours to bring up to full steam and go on-line and you get brown outs or black outs if you don't have enough generating capacity.

He showed us graphs of power usage during the super bowl, there's a huge rise the start of the game when a million TVs go on and then another huge surge at half time when a million fridge doors open and the the compressors start cycling AND a million toilets flush (The so called super bowl super flush) and all the utility pumps kick in to replace the water in tanks. And then there's a huge drop at the end when a million TVs all get turned off simultaneously.
