    Congratulations To Tom Hintz

Congrats Tom on having the lead article in the latest Woodcraft Magazine. Your article was excellent and will be valuable to many penturners. The images and descriptions made each step easy to understand and follow.
    Very well done.

Just an FYI. I'm also new to turning and bought Tom's bowl turning video ($11). It's good info for a new turner and the price seems good to me.

Thanks guys! It's good to hear the article is well received.
I have been resisting doing magazine work again after making a living at it for a decade or so (racing) but it was fun and felt good to get into it again.

All I could say after reading it was... WOW!

Turning kinda scares me as I consider any lathe as one of the most dangerous tools in the shop. Don't own one. But now ...

SWMBO asked me if my life insurance was paid up. Then asked me if I wanted a lathe for my birthday next month...

                        Paul,
A lathe is really one of the safest machines in a woodworking shop if you follow basic practices, primarily keeping the tool on the rest and your fingers behind the rest. The other is to let the piece stop before touching it. Basic mounting of the piece is easy to do correctly and all but eliminates throwing it off.
When we did our saftey survey a few years ago, the lathe was the only machine NOT mentioned in injury reports!
Like anything, if you just think about what you are doing, the chances of doing something that will get you hurt go way down.
When everything else is going wrong in the shop, I go to the lathe and make something round to relax.
