    Scary night! (long post)

Yesterday the weatherman kept upping the chances for rain as the day progressed. Then last night, about 7:30 they started taking about "severe storms". Well, about 9:30 we got hit by a severe storm. Started as high winds and rain, then progressed to small hail (pea sized) then rapidly went on to golf ball sized hail, then to just-under-tennis ball sized hail stones.
The hail only lasted for about 15-20 minutes but it broke the upper pane in the garden window by my computer, showering the computer, printer, etc., etc with glass and rain water. It also cracked the windshield in my sister-in-laws Ford Explorer and completly destroyed the moonroof. Not too many dents in the car though, mostly in the hood area. The winds were blowing over 40MPH and the car was facing into the wind so it was kind of like she were driving it into the storm
This morning I went out to survey the damage and discovered that it broke everything plastic on the top of our fifth-whel trailer, fridge vent cover, A/C cover, roof vents, plumbing vent covers, all of it. Plus it destroyed all the clearance lights on the back of the rig and one taillight cover.
Went into my shop to get some tools to make a cover for the window and found water on the floor in the back of the shop. got a ladder and looked at the room (corrigated aluminum roof) and found two holes about the size of my fist in the roof. Got them temp patched today, but will have to replace the roof soon. This is the season for this kind of weather here in west Texas.
Good news is that we got about 21/2 inches of rain with the storm.
More good news is that only the shop floor got wet, no tools were wet.

It sounds bad, but We both know it could have been worse. Here in NorthEast Arkansas, We have recently missed 2 of the same kinds of storms. Maybe the cleanup won't take too long. Bill

Hailstorms scare the bejesus out of me. LOML and I got caught in one on the Indianapolis bypass couple of weeks ago, was thrilled that her new Camry came out of it without a single dent. I thought sure we were done for.

Todays paper had pictures from WACO of the damage that round of storms brought.
Glad you are still here to report on the storms.

That storm in Indy made my car somewhat resemble a golf ball.

I bet that was scary. No wonder you had so much damage with 10 to 15 minutes of hail that size.

              Chuck,
My sympathies to you, we had some rough weather here in WF earlier in the week and the roof is leaking on our new oak floor.
              Glad you survived,

Wow. I am glad no one was hurt. A few weeks ago I was downstairs working and looked outside during a storm. Saw the hail and thought it looked cool. It wasn't big enough to do any damage though.

Wardprobst: On your new oak floor? Bummmmmer!!! At least all we got wet was the plywood floor in the shop and a countertop by the garden window. M printer got some glass and rain water in it, it dried out by itself but I had to take it apart to get the glass out.

I lived in Abilene from 1999-2001. I remember one night it hailed so much that the ENTIRE ground was covered. It looked like it had snowed!

                      Chuck,
We were on our way back to Lubbock from South Padre and decided to stop by Lake Fort Phantom to pick up our sailboat (kept at the Abilene Sailing Club). We arrived at the lake at about 8:30. 15 minutes later we sat in the clubhouse at the lake and watched baseball size hailstones beat the windshield out of my pickup and pretty much destroy the hood and the roof. The windspeed indicator on our mini weather station registered a sustained 81 MPH windspeed during the hail storm. Body shop says about 3900.00 worth work on my truck. Several boats were blown off their trailers in the storage area and there were many windows in the houses around the lake that were totally gone. It was the worst hail storm I have been in during the 52 years I have lived in West Texas.
