    Why I love this country

This is one of the reasons I love living in "northern" Canada.
Even though these are not my pictures, I have seen such nights....mostly when I was a kid in Dawson Creek (Mile '0' of the Alaska Highway).
These were all taken in Voises Bay, Nfld.

Used to watch the "Lights" when I was stationed in Iceland. They are beautiful!

That's one of the main reasons I enjoyed the midnight shift when I was a Security cop in the Air Guard at Bangor, ME.

My (now ex-) wife was driving home from Boston with a girlfriend one night and thought Bangor had been nuked when she saw them for the first time.

Far out, man. I saw those lights in the early 70's, but I was inside at the time.:-)

I guess one can watch these from Alaska as well. Is it true that being in the vicinity of those can really mess with your electronics? These do look real good though.

Yes, in fact, I've seen them from the air while flying over Alaska. The wonders of nature.

I seen them in Norway but there wasn't a lot of them and not super bright.
                        Still pretty cool though.

We see them often here in northern manitoba too. Amazes me to think that most people probably have never seen them.

The aurora is one of the handful of things I genuinely miss from the ten years I lived in Alaska. The last winter I was there, I was at a drive-in movie on an incredibly cold and clear winter night when the most spectacular display I ever witnessed unfolded, directly above the movie screen. They actually stopped the movie for about 20 minutes because everyone was out of their cars, oohing and aahing.

As good as these pictures are, I've yet to see any pictures or video than truly do the aurora justice. Mother Nature at her most spectacular.
