    At first I was surprised at #1 until I had thought about it.

                        Rather a confusing (or confused) list. Some, like the mosquito, are in there because of total deaths caused. Others, like the polar bear or lion, are listed because they could easily kill a person if given the chance, but are only responsible for a handful of actual deaths each year. It would be interesting to see a list of animals responsible for most deaths, starting perhaps with the mosquito. I'd bet that the top twenty don't even include lions, sharks, and polar bears! Probably more people killed by horses and cattle, definitely more by rats (and their associated plague, etc.).
