This is interesting. This will not happen again.

    On Wednesday
    of THIS week,

    at two minutes

    and three seconds

    after 1:00 A.M.
    in the morning,

    the time and date

    will be

    01:02:03 04/05/06.

The title should have been it will happen again .

if you guys want to be technical it's all the result of culture-specific formats.

in reality your date/time should be

              01:02:03 05/04/2006
the five being the date in european format comes before the month which makes more sense because the numbers are in magnitude order (e.g. days are shorter than months which are shorter than years). Likewise the time is actually in inverse order. Finally the year is truncated again for convenience.

The most logical would be to have the most significant quantity first as in

2006/04/05 01:02:03 if you were logging this then the sort order would be correct.
However strictly speaking the origin (zero point) of this system is arbitrary, and the divisions are not uniform powers of any base - we have base 365.25, base 24, base 60 and god knows what for months. It's a horrible system.

So, the date and time as numbers are totally meaningless.

Are you sure? I thought April was supposed to be removed from the calendar year in 2018. Supposedly will save fuel....kinda like why they were talking about extending daylight savings time a few month ago.

I remember back in '90 when the date and time were 12:34:56 7/8/90. No one seemed to care then. I thought it was cool.

I survived! Crawled into the bomb shelter just after 1pm sat down and ate some leftover y2k cheese and just hoped for the best. glad that one's over.
