What did you do this weekend? (03/25)

I spent a couple hours yesterday picking up a wood play structure. 2 years old - still has the stain on it from when it was originally built and a 1/3rd the cost of the materials to make one myself. So it will last till my daughter grows out of it and I bet I can sell it for more than I paid for it.

Main structure without the roof is 5x5x8 then there is a beam and legs for the swings. My brother helped. 'course it rained last week so the dollies sank and we ended up flipping it end over end the 75' or so to the truck. Dunno how heavy it is, a couple hundred lbs at least.

After that I started fixing a tow-behind aerator I got as a freebie when I bought my mower last year. Handle to raise/lower the wheels was not isntalled cause the bracket was on the wrong side. After much swearing at rusted bolts and deconstruction/reconstruction I realized the axle will have to be disassembled to fix the bracket, it was put on wrong too.

    A very satisfying experience...

Chopped up 6' x 5' particle board entertainment system and threw it in the dump! Been lugging that beast around for 25 years.

Went to a Hockey game, saw OKC get theirs butts kicked. Watched my kids play soccer. Went to a family birthday party. Rebuilt a gate to my fence, now it's really sturdy, straight and can lock from the inside so that my neighbors kids can't walk in whenever they feel like it. Needed to be done for safety reasons as we have a pool in the back.

More work on the kitchen (although not much). I also worked on fixing up the bamboo rail fence that I built last year. The school kids keep on tearing sections of it apart. Well, it now has twice as many posts as before, and I'm working to add more rails. I consider it a challenge to make it tough enough.

Also, second time using the grill this year. Now, if only it got warmer so I feel like using it more...

              Great Weekend!

Sandy (LOML) just got Promoted to Store Manager for Stage Department Stores, which means that we have to move again! That's the third move in 8 months! Hopefully the LAST one!

We left Friday morning to go to Miami, Oklahoma, about 50 miles North of Grove, to meet a Real Estate Agent who had a group of properties for us to look at.

We looked at something like 6 or 8 properties, then made an offer on the third one we had looked at. It's a 3 bedroom/1 1/2 bath ranch, with an attached 2 car Garage (workshop)

Sunday evening, we made a counter-offer and it was accepted! The first thing we agreed on was the fact that the Garage is Mine to do with as I please.

We move in at the end of May. That means I'll finally have a shop area that I can call my own.

              It's a 24' X 24' Garage......needs a little work, but not much.

First thing I'll need to do is check for Insulation on the two outside walls and check the Garage door for insulation too. There are already two 20 Amp circuits in the garage, will probably have to add a Sub-Panel. You can't imagine the "plans" that are swimming around in my head!

First order of business is the insulation, the second is HVAC for the Garage, then I start on the walls and Ceiling.

They're sheet rock now and I'll cover the exposed areas with 1/2" OSB, then add 1/4" Peg Board for tools and stuff to one wall and put cabinets on the other wall, mounted on French cleats (so they can be easily repositioned), All walls, including the Peg Board will be painted an off white and the ceiling will be "ceiling white.

The power distribution will be surface mounted, I'm thinking I'll need at least 4) 20 Amp circuits on the walls plus the two 15 Amp lighting circuits on the Ceiling and two 240 VAC/30 Amp Circuits for the Welder and the DC.

I think my Summer is prety much shot!

Have I missed anything so far??
Stop thinking why you can't and Start thinking how you CAN!

Well, you didn't mention wood storage. Or are you just going to cut it all up?!

I soldered a mod chip in an xbox and configured it to be used as a video game machine (with the games loaded onto the disc) for my brother-in-law's store. Due to a bios issue, I spent a frustrating 9 hours on something that should have been simple. Oh, and I finished the 1/4 scale model of my chair.

                    Went to NCAA

pregame party in DC on Sunday at ESPN Zone sponsored by Siemens. There were extra tickets left to go to the game but I really don't care at all about b-ball. Great food, open bar and got our picture taken with the trophy. Our cutomers loved it. Anyone know who won? Come to think of it - who played?

Built a poplar shevling unit for my storage unit. Took me 4hrs and then another hour rearranging the storage to get it in there and fill it up. Looks a lot neater now. Originally was going to build two units the 7 1/2' x 4' I built and a smaller 4' x 4' unit to sit under some hanging shelves I already made, but ran out of poplar. I'm a real stickler when it comes to maximizing space. The unit is a 10' x 10'. I've got 2 shelving units, 3 hanging shelves and stuff stacked to the ceiling in places. I manged to clear a 2' by 3' path in the middle. Still thinking what to fill the space with .

Drove up to Chantilly for the Wood Working Show. Talked to Jeff Farris from SharpTools about the new Tormek I just purchased.

Then drove home and was dying to test it out, when SWMBO insised we do the Grocery Shopping when I got home... that was the longest 1.5hrs...

Then stayed up until about 0130 playing and managing to only destroy our knives - oh Jeff makes it look so easy!!!

By Sunday night, I managed to figure it out, kind of, so at least the knives are usable!

BTW, there is a posting over at Woodnet, that Jason from Hartville is going to have to stop discounting the Tormek- so if you were thinking about getting one, I'd move on it soon....

Spent most of Sat. finishing up the dividers on two 4' x 8' x 19" record (medical) storage cabinets for a local Dr.'s office. Sides and backs out of 1/2" a/c ply and then five shelves each out of 3/4" a/c ply. Made verical dividers out of luan, two each for each shelf. Also made the same kind of storage but only 2' x 8' x 19", for a total width of 10". Boy were they ever heavy!! The rest of Sat. was spent with two friends getting them into the office which (wouldn't you know) was down about a doZen steps. Anyway, the Doc is pleased. so far. He hasn't seen the bill yet: It was interesting but wouldn't want to do that full time.
