    I actually made a Non-Tool purchase!

In my job I am at times forced to travel. It really is not all that much maybe 4 or 5 times a year. This particular trip I am starting out on is kind of hectic for me as I leave for Chicago tomorrow, return Friday night and then leave for Seattle on Sunday. Then I will be there for 7 days all for meetings. One thing I really hate about traveling is the plane ride, it is just so boring no mater what I do. I have found however that listing to music makes the time go by much quicker. I had a Sony mini-disc MP3 player previously but that was the only thing that was stolen when my house was broke into.

Well tonight while out getting some last minute stuff for the trip’s I broke down and bought one of those iPod Nano’s. I bought the 4 gig black version and even though it is not a tool it sure is a neat little thing. I have been just sitting here loading music and playing with it for about 4 hours now. MP3 players sure have come a long way to say the least. I think it is also very humorous that I can load my Outlook Calendar and contacts on it and it even has games! The touch sensitive little controller is quite easy to get used to. This thing may end up in the shop plugged into the stereo even if it isn’t a tool!

another POD Person!!!!! ahhhhhhh!!!!! Run for your lives.

I'm one of the few that refuses to become a POD person for the simple matter that I don't download music. I buy the CD. Usually if I like one song, I'll like some of the others too.

If at first you don't succeed, deny you were trying in the first place.

Its not just the downloading the music. If you have 100 CDs', taking them with you is a pain, not to mention swapping them out every 30-40 minutes or every five minutes if you just have a few favorites.

I rip all my CDs to mine my favorite tracks and put them on a single small MP3 player device you can carry on a plane and have hours of uninterrupted favorites playing for you.

Since I'm peripherially in the performing arts, I'm pretty sensitive to royalty issues. It's quite easy to rip your CDs using iTunes and then load up your iPod. That's the route I take. I nearly always buy the physical CD. Also, somewhere in the iTunes Music Store you can sign up for a "New Music Tuesdays" newsletter which contains a link for a free download each Tuesday.

#1 Son just bought a Nano to replace the Shuffle he sent through the washer. The sound quality is as good or better than my third gen iPod.

Both sound MUCH better with a good set of headphones and a HeadRoom headphone amp.

        Happy iPodding!

I'm an audiophile and have long resisted this portable player fad.. Not until RIO KARMA became available where you could load up a wave or a flac file both formats without compression and does not result to loss of audio quality. I don't buy them song for download.. I buy the physical CD because I want to be able to play it on my stereo system at home as well. I only use the rio karma when I am on a business trip. In the car I use the CD/DVD player because I but the audio dvd disc as well. I love the RIO Karma and was a little disappointed that this player was discontinued. But if you want to jump on the portable music player bandwagon this thing can be purchase at a bargain at ebay.
