    Fatal Stabbing Yesterday

We live a a fairly nice neighborhood, however there are a couple of houses that have been sold to a slum type landlord. He rented a house out 3 weeks ago to a woman and Her 4 children. The house is up the street and second from the corner, so it's 4 houses away.

Another woman came by and they got to arguing over a guy, and the visitor got out of the car and started stabbing her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. I saw the crime scene set up and they caught the killer within 4 hours, that is our second murder this year in Jonesboro. We had 4 last year, I don't know anymore what get's into people. Bill

It's a sign of the times. Many people in our society come from cultures where life means very little, if any. Or from those where anything you own is fair game for anyone who has the balls to take it. And it will get worse before it gets better.
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

Without making light of such a tragic ocurrance, that's exactly why I sleep with a cocked and locked .45 auto and stinger flashlight next ot my side of the bed.

        its life

society is not going to hades in a handbasket, its just life. Life in this county used to be pretty cheap too. Anyone remember the depression? or the Okies going to cali? or whatever.

It is a shame what happened to that woman, glad they got the killa. And glad you and yours weren't threatened or involved.

4 in a year. The police and sherriff in Sacramento would love that. 4 a day is more like it here. I don't even take my dog for walk in park in the evening anymore with out a gun. I hate that but we are kind of stuck here because of the housing prices can't afford 450k for a smaller house. Thought about moving to another state, but would have to pay more of my health insurance and being retired health and medical care is important. It is a sad state of affairs what is happening to our society.

I went to college in a small town (UW-Stout, Menomonie, WI ) and lived in a rented house in a neighborhood that was 95% college students.

There was a sad situation one year with a home just down the block from ours - between us and campus. Apparently, an elderly couple who had successfully and repeatedly rented their upstairs apartment to college students, made the unintentional mistake of renting to a group of young people intent on starting a satellite gang community from Minneapolis. I remember sitting on our porch and watching police & ambulances showing up at thier property weekly - gang jump-ins we were told. My girlfriend (now wife) was on the university student council and was consistently receiving updates from the local police regarding this particular situation and its potential dangers to students.

I remember notifying the police a couple of times when we saw people from this home circling the block - and eventually taking post on each of the corners - one under each stop sign! Honestly, these middle / high school kids were sitting there on watch-out while deals were going down. Sad....

Eventually, the troublemakers were evicted - the landlords were understandably reluctant to aggressively pursue eviction on their own without municipal backing - I can only assume that they sold their home after that.

Getting the municipality involved worked in this case. No one wants to be a tattle tale - but if something doesn't seem right in your neighborhood - it doesn't hurt to call the authorities and at least alert them to your concerns. It works in some cases - understandably not in others.

Bruce, thats the way to go. I have my 9mm + 3 15rd clips and a big mag light within reach. 44mag and 3 speedloaders is the backup.
