Did you see where it was located? Michigan ave. in Chicago. You know, all those department stores had pretty nice shops they used for building displays and store fixtures. I wonder if this is a relic from a bygone era. Kinda sad.

        Thanks,
        Phil

I seriously considered bidding and bringing it back to Maine.

Lets see, Airfare to Chitown and a U-Haul back, (about $1000?).
          Saw, $5.
Owning a vintage Delta in restored condition?
Well, I think it could be priceless.

I still might have beat the cost of a fairly new saw, but...

Note that it went via 'Buy it Now'. And that is a real ancient looking saw, and note that 'it worked when last used' and 'not used for many years', which in my book usually means 'we are sure as heck it is rusted shut by now'. Also note 'pickup only' and 'must be able to move and load'. They are trying to clear the space, and disposing of a 500+lb machine must cost a heck of a lot.

I am planning to replace my heating system this year. I think I'll put up my ancient boiler on ebay once the new one is in place. Will specify 'works great' and 'must be able to get it out of my basement and into your car'.

With the closing of the Berghoff restaurant, and the re-naming of Marshall Fields I thought you might be onto something but then I saw that it was S Michigan.

Looked up 2400 S Mich, and it was until the beginning of the year home to the Chicago Defender Newspaper since 1959. Before that it was home to the AAA from 1936-1959.

The Defender's website says: "Prior to the Defender assuming the facility, many changes had to be made in the structure to accommodate the giant printing press and other equipment required to print a daily newspaper. Until 1956, the Defender was a weekly publication. It took two years to turn the space, which held an Olympic-sized swimming pool and health club, into a state-of-the-art printing plant."

Maybe that's what they used it for?

Heck, I'd bought it sight unseen if I could've called them and heard it turn on. Let's see, I live in Montgomery, AL. Approx. 12 hours each way, 6 tanks of gas for the truck (rough estimate). At $40/tank, looking at $240 for gas, at least $40 for hotel room (ain't no way I'm sleeping in the back of the frontier), $25-$35 for fast food for two days. Heck, now I'm looking at $300 or more, plus what it would take to get the saw in top shape.

Heck, I guess I wouldn't have bought it after all. It sounded good until I did the math. I'll stick with the BT3100 for a while longer.

besides they didn't want to wire it up and turn it on - they apparently just wanted it out the door as fast as possible for the first sucker - i mean taker.

Had I known about it I might have gone for it. Chicago is only about 2 hours from here.

Heck, I live in Oklahoma. I would have drove up there and picked it up. Not sure how I missed that one. I been searching Ebay for one.
