    BT3X In UK

    Hi.

    First thread!.

Eveyone seems to virtually rave about their BT3X.

I cannot find any supplier in the Uk (N. Ireland) and would like to see one.

I will shortly be in the market for a new TS - any pointers would be appreciated.

Alas, they are only sold in the US and Canada, and, I hear in Australia.
Although Australia gives you a 220V version, its not likely to be
    cost effective on shipping.

There are a couple of forum members in the UK, though. I don't think that fact solves the availability problem, unless you can make them an offer they can't refuse!

Well, on afterthought, they did sell the BT3000 in a 220V version for some years in the UK. There are a couple of UK owners that have corresponded on this forum in the past.

So if you have your heart set on this saw, rummaging through for sale ads and used equipment places may yield you one; I think it will take some persistence. Fortunately, it's mostly aluminum on the table, so it won't be rusted out!

For fun I ran the UPS shipping calculator to send a BT3100 from my area to Belfast--it came to 463 USD, plus 250 USD for the saw, a total of over 400 GBP.

No matter, notice that the site's tagline is "It's not just about the saw."

Welcome, and I wish you well in your search for a new saw.

I think it's fair to say that I've "corresponded on this forum in the past," Loring!

Just to clear this up: the BT3000 ceased to be offered in the UK - all spare parts and some complete saws were destroyed - during the Autumn of 2003. Although there is a version now available in Australia which would be suitable for UK use, it will not be sold here (source: Ryobi UK HQ, 2005).

Apart from myself, the only other UK owner on the Forum is Michael Bacon (AttilatheHun), who purchased the last BT3000 sold new in the UK - I bought mine used. Unfortunately, health issues still prevent Michael from contributing, so I hope he won't object to my filling in a little background on his behalf. As I recall, Michael also has the Wide Table Kit, although I'm not sure if that was sourced in the UK - I imported my WTK from Sears.

There was at least one other BT3K owner in the UK (who got in touch with me through my web site when his belts broke), but he is not a Forum member. Three others joined over the last 18 months, hoping to buy a BT3 in the UK, but one bought another saw and the other two did not contribute further when there search proved fruitless.

The market that the BT3000 was originally offered in within the UK was a completely different one from nowadays and I suspect that if the BT3100 was to go on sale in the UK now it would be a roaring success, given what is currently available. Ryobi, however, do not share my confidence and have no plans to ever offer it.

That's interesting - and far more saw than you could get over here for that money!
