    16 foot prospector Canoe

    It has been some time since I posted, have made a little progress on my 16 footer. Enjoy!
    Almost half done! then to the other side and start all over and a butt load of sanding to do! Coming up to the bottom. I used Tight Bond wood glue but later switched to gorilla wood glue. (I preferred Gorilla because it dried white and was easier to see when sanding, if you don't get all the glue sanded off it turns white when you fiberglass, a mistake I learned from my first canoe). A few more done. Strips were 3/4 wide by 1/4 thick with bead on the bottom and cove on the top. All cedar was bought at the local big chain hardware store in 6,8,10 and 12 foot lengths. I think I still have splinters from going though all the wood to find boards with the fewest knots. Working my way up one side, strip by strip all wood strips were ripped and routed with my BT3000. This was the start back in 2009. I must thank Bear Mountain Boats for the blueprints I ordered and Ted Moores wonderful book Canoecraft to guide me though the process of building a canoe. (side note, Northwest canoes has 5 or 6 plans in PDF for free to promote canoe building, they print 1:1 and I took a set to a printing place and it cost about 5 bucks to print).
