Nice weekend;

Well it’s the end of a very nice weekend with the exception of having to replace my AC in the shop. On the plus side the new unit is working much better than the old one ever did. I was fortunate to spend considerable time in the shop and have a few things to offer.

The first is a pictorial on making a Drawbar system that might be interesting to someone or something you can stick in the back of your mind incase you are ever in need.

I also purchased the new Turners Collet chuck system from Woodcraft and I think that it is quite the deal and I wrote my thoughts about it here;

I also made a bigger hand for the toolrest base on my Nova out of Canary.



I even had a chance to make a box! This is Black Walnut with a Olive Wood finial.



Inside view, even though the picture makes it appear there is a line in the lid there is not, it is a reflection.

Great review on the collet chucks. I've wanted to get a set, but they can be a bit pricey. This set looks like a bargain.

That walnut box came out nice. Very nice finish on that, but then again, your finishes always do come out nice. I guess I should look at some kind of buffing system cuz it sure seems to work wonders.

Bob, I got a chance to use the new Collet chuck and it is quite nice. I like it better than the Beall system. The collets are longer so there is more griping area. Also a dang site cheaper!

Scott, as I have said you will like this set I think. Also thanks for the proof read on my page, I don’t know how I went from 16tpi to 18tpi from the shop to the house but it has been fixed. Thanks for watching out for me.

Dick, to me a collet chuck opens up new worlds for creating things with a mandrel as you can really get custom.

Karen, thanks for the comments on the box I am going more towards flowing lines and curves now but that is subject to change tomorrow!

I was surprised at the amount of email I got when my site went down from the Hosting companies problems. I even had offers of financial support to keep it up! I had to explain that I had not gone anywhere just had Hosting problems. (I did refuse the money though, this is my hobby and my entertainment and anything I can do to help new turners is great with me!) And if you like my tutors you can thank Scott AKA Mudder also, he gave me a lot of support and ideas when I started writing them. (Also is my resident spelling checker )
