Very nice set-up Ken. Looks very familiar because I just set mine up yesterday. When I saw the picture I had to make a double take as it looks like my picture.

I like the other post where you added a handle to the tool rest lever. That is just what I needed to see and it will be my next project. So far that is the only thing I was disappointed in.

    Thanks again

    Dick

Oh sure Dick! Go out and buy a bench! That is so cheating….

I have not purchased the outboard tool rest yet but am really thinking that I may. I think I am going to get another bed extension first though.

One of the things that I really disliked about the Grizzly was the small rod used as a tool rest base lock. I fixed that by installing a Delta tool rest base and milled it down to size. Now that one has a 3/4” thick steel handle on it and I loved it. When I got the Nova and we were on the way home I was telling the wife that one of the first things I was going to do was to deal with that small handle. The results are what you saw. I really like it much better and I think you will also.

BTW. Welcome to the best forum on the net.

        Thanks for the welcome Ken.

That flimsy bench has been moved around the shop more times then I can count in the last 10 years and has almost been sold twice. So I decided to put it to better use. I removed the vices from it and turned it over and filled the open space with 3/4" melamine and added a 2 x12 to the bottom of the shelf.

The bench started out weighing about 50 lbs, but now weighs around 200 lbs. I also added a bunch of steel angles to each leg and some cross members to make it solid.

By the time it get 4 more bags of sand, this set up won't be going anywhere.

        I really love this lathe.

        Thanks again for the welcome.
        Dick

          Uh......Kenneth........

In your picture is that a breaker box on the wall behind the lathe?

Are you aware that your shop is covered under OSHA regulations and it requires the space in front of the breaker box to be clear for at least 3 feet. (That is straight to the floor and 3 feet out). You appear to be in violation.

Since I am such a nice guy (yea right) [}] and I would not want my good friend to get into trouble [B)] you can package that lathe up and ship it up to me and I'll set it up in my shop, making sure of course that it is more that 3 feet away from the breaker box.

I make this offer because you are a friend, there are very few who I would extend this generous offer to but because you have been a lender of much support and encouragement, I won't even charge you a storage fee.

Welcome to the <s>cult</s> er forum Dick. I am also the proud owner of a DVR and mine sits on a cheap carpenter bench that I bought form Job Lot for about 70 bucks. Plenty sturdy and does the job well. Don't you just love the torque that the DVR gives you at the low RPM's? That's something that those that own lesser models (did I just say that out loud?) would not know about....

Anyway, welcome to the group........ Time for me to crawl back under the rock.
