    Goblet

It's been way to quiet on turning talk lately, so please allow me to add some of my humble turnings!

Here is a small goblet (just under 3" tall) with a captive ring. My first goblet, and my first captive ring! Spalted maple from the firewood pile. Not yet finished, I have not really found THE finish for this maple. Not sure if my wife will relinquish it for finishing though...

Nice looking goblet and of course the captive ring makes it look special.

If the skipper heard you call that deck a floor he would throw you through that little round window

Nice shape on the goblet, and +1 for the ring.

Real nice Gerd. I like Behlen's Turners Finish on Hickory from the firewoood pile. It should look good on maple, they're about the same shade of pale.

Very nice work. I haven't worked up the courage to try a captive ring yet.

            Thanks!

Well, the ring you know... I figured it can't harm to try, worst case it would have just been a goblet. I do not have a special tool for it, I basically just turned a fairly 'deep' bead, then used the point of the skew chisel to scrape away the 'inside' wood. It didn't come out all that well, so I taped some sanding paper on the stem and used that to smooth out the inside of the ring.

Nice job on the goble and ring. Next is the double ring. Nice trick with sanding the inside.
