Well as you know I have been doing a lot on the metal lathe making parts for my Grizzly lathe. Yesterday while working on a part I somehow got some grease on my spindle drive pulley and it ate itself! So no metal turning for me today and now that my 2X6 project is finished I thought I would spend some time on the wood lathe.
This first piece is from some wood that I rough turned and had sitting for several months. It was real wet when I first turned it and slung water everywhere. I decided to give it a check with the moister meter and it was down to 9% moister content. It had warped badly and it took some time to get it back true. I just wish I could remember the name of the wood! I am going to have to start labeling the stuff. Any how I decided to work with some curved forms and work on following that curve on the interior.
This is what I came up with;

Inside view;

I also got a hold of some Claro Walnut that had just beautiful figure in it. I got to turning it and came up with a shape I could practice following curvature with and also a shape that would highlight the grain.

Inside View;

As you can see both pieces are pretty thin at less than 1/8” thick but the thickness is very consistent thought the piece. These pieces barley made it in the house before they were claimed by the wife. I had a hard time getting the bowl back to take a picture!
Thanks for having a look.
