    Barrel Trimmers and Finish?

OK...going to finally get started with the Jet Mini Lathe my wife bought me for Christmas. Want to start by making some Pens. Looks like Woodcraft and Penn State are both good places to get the tools I'll need. I know I need the mandrel, bushings, pen kits, drill guide, press, and a Barrel Trimmer. I have seen hand trimmers and ones you put in the chuck of a drill...which do you guys use? Also, what finish do you like best?

    Tom,
Most trimmers have a threaded shaft behind the head. This gives you the choice of adding a handle (another thing to turn!) or use the shaft in a drill press or hand drill.
Finishing is another can of worms. Friction Polish, wax, CA, etc., the list is endless. If you haven't visited the International Association of Penturners site, it's at http://www.penturners.org/forum/default.asp
Go to the Finishing section and you'll be busy for awhile. The articles section has several options for finishes.
    HTH,
