    Some New Pens

Purpleheart and some orange wood, I picked up a 5 lb. bag of blanks at WC for a bargin and have no idead what some of the wood is. The fat slimline has a shopmade centerband made from a piece of 'ebony'?? The others are PSI Longwoods. The colors are more vivid in person.
    Thanks for looking.

Very nice pens Ken. I like that orange wood.

I have often seen Padauk with that orange color. In fact I have some orange Padauk that I got in a grab bag from woodcraft but it is a shory piece and probably will use it to make a couple of centerbends.

Great work, Ken. The woods compliment each other well.

I like buying those grab bags and grab boxes from Woodcraft. Even though you are not always sure what the woods are, that fact alone seems to make it more fun.

Nice Pens Ken. I like the center bands. I just picked up a grab bag last week with just some identified. Is there some info on making the center bands?

                  Thanks everyone for the comments.
Chuck, I picked this idea up on at penturners.org. Grab a piece of stock that you want CB's from, cut it to blank width, drill a 1/4" hole through it lengthwise. I then setup the BT with stopblocks to cut lengths the same as the kit CB length. Then just replace the center bushing on the mandrel with a piece of the CB stock. The only gotchya here is that your saw must cut a perfect 90, if not the CB won't be flush and tight to the front and back blank. After drilling the 1/4" hole the CB stock can be turned round on the mandrel and then part sections off the length, or a bit greater, of the kit CB.
If this is not clear I'll find the original instructions at penturners.

Thanks Ken. It sounds simple enough. I have to try that out on the next pen set.
