A heads-up for all those interested in turning, especially those (like me) who don't own a lathe yet and are itching to get started:
Episode #1706 of The New Yankee Workshop, scheduled to air on Saturday, 12 Feburary -- tomorrow, as this is written -- is titled "Lathe 101" and is described thusly on the NYW web site:
"Lathe 101 is the first in a series of programs planned over the next several seasons of The New Yankee Workshop featuring the skills required to master a single shop tool. In this first installment, Norm tackles the wood lathe and shows the basic techniques necessary to learn spindle turning, showing several examples of lathes and the tools required to achieve professional results. A self-taught turner himself, Norm then turns a regulation sized baseball bat and even gets a member of the current Red Sox baseball team to try it out in Fenway Park. You’ll see the results and you’ll learn how to improve your lathe skills on this long awaited program."
The kicker is that you'll need to check your local listings since the day the episode airs may vary. Here the NYW shows typically air one week later than the web site says. Throw in a pledge drive and ... well, let's not go there.
Anyway, check it out. Gotta be worth watching.
