Awesome. Its posts like this that will get me into turning - dang you. I have a feeling that a lathe will be added to my shop before the year is out...
Dan, do you happen to have a pic of what the blank looked like?Jon

Jon,
This is the blank on my ringmaster lathe.
The problem is my dowel making tool is absolutely .5000 inch, the drill is also absolutely .5000. In the photo that shows the Walnut plug front and bottom you can see where I had to add a piece of different Walnut and it was darker. The problem is that the glue gets pushed out and the last of the plug has no glue left so its possible for a small chip to occur.
My answer is in the mail, (I think) a 13mm drill which will be slightly over .5000.Cork,

That looks pretty awesome! Some Qs:
- What woods?
- Finish?
- The bolt, is that a screw so you can chuck it and do the outside? It looks unfamiliar.
If the 13mm drill is not the answer, couldn't you just chuck the dowels in the lathe and sand them down a hair?Comment
