Everything works very well Randy except for the threaded rod. Both of the rods I ordered from Enco have warps in them. I have been looking around for a better source for a 16tpi threaded rod but have not found one yet. I am thinking about ordering some 3/4” tool rod and just making my own on the new lathe. Once I get past this problem and have a strait rod I can release these plans to everybody. If I end up making my own then I will also make one for anybody that wants to build the jig at a very low cost.

Ken,
How much did the stuff cost you? The company I work for sells it and it is good stuff but expensive. How much do you need? I have a 36" bar sitting here waiting till you get done with your writeup. If you need less that 18" I could cut my bar in half and split the cost with you.
My plan calls for a 10" piece. That is all the is holding me up. It threads good but not up to what I want. I have been practicing threading junk rod and I feel I am ready to tackle the real piece.
If nobody minds I would like to go in on the other 10" of that 3 food piece. I'm not sure if the stock Scott is talking about is already threaded or not. If not, I will gladly pay you for your time and effort to thread it Ken.
Anyhow, just though I'd throw this out there. Been interested in one of these threading setups for boxes for a while.

Our stock is already threaded to 3/4-16 unf- 2A and it is extremely straight. I'm not totally sure on the straightness specs but I will look tomorrow when I am at work. I think this stuff sells for something like $30.00 plus shipping for a 3' section. Ken, If you can cut this stuff on the lathe you are a master machinist. I believe that our stock is 18-8 sst and is thread rolled. Not going to be easy to cut a 2A quality thread for 10" and keep the bar straight. I'll have to look at the receipt when I get to work and let you know the exact price. You can get it from us P/N: DJSP1017 www.nordex.com or call
(800) 243-0986 or you might want to check our competitor www.wmberg.com or a direct link to their page P/N T1-17 http://www.wmberg.com/catalog/pdf/b00j019a.pdf call them at 1-800-232-BERG I cannot in good faith tell you that our product is better than theirs. I would ask them about straightness.
Scott
P.S. We also sell 303sst shafting I believe the straightness spec is .0004 per in/per in. but I would have to double check.
<edit> we have 1 piece in stock the list price is $30.60 and I personally checket the runout at the center of the shaft to be .0093 while supporting the two ends in vee blocks. Ken, That's a runout of under .005" is that good enough?
