    Buffer arrangement for your lathe

Another resourceful woodturner (Russ Fairfield a.k.a. penturning god) came up with the idea of using a paint roller as a buffer mounted in his mini lathe. Here are some pics of what two woodturners (Fred and Bruce) from penturners.org working together have come up with to hold the roller. The one end is turned the same size as an MT2 taper and the other to fit against the tailstock center. Bruce now sells them for $15 at http://www.boonerings.com/htmpages/buffmandrels.htm

    That is one smart design.

That Russ is one smart fellow.
Makes me wonder why I spent the money for the beall system.

          Scott -

Thx for posting this (way back when). I recently took pictures of my setup - for woodnet, and couldnt recall where I first heard about this. Great idea - works wonderful!

So you can buff the inside of your bowls.

Tried my Beall system out for the first time yesterday (the 3-wheel on lathe one). Can't really get it to go inside the bowls, bowls to small/wheels to big and close together. I can however get it to catch the work piece and throw it into the fluorescent light-bulbs! Probably still be finding glas shards years from now!

No, but it'll put one heck of a racing stripe up your shirt and across your nose...
