I see quite a few of you are looking for inexpensive ways to compress pens. Well, to make a long story short, I have been making a few pens, just to get the hang of things, and to see if I could accomplish making them. Pen making is fun, but I dont really want to be doing it all the time, so I have been doing it the cheapest way I can without dumping alot of money into excess tools that eventually will just sit around doing nothing. I know alot of you are very creative and looking for inexpensive ways to do things. When it came to pressing pens, I got to looking around at what I had. I got real interested when I looked at my lathe, for the simple fact that the tailstock will do exactly what we are looking for when putting these pens together. So I took the faceplate and put a wooden jig over it, and made another wooden jig for the tailstock. And I will tell you what, it works just as slick as can be for putting pens together!! You can adjust it easily to any length, and turning the tailstock in is pretty precise. You dont have to worry about overshooting anything. So for a few scrap pieces of wood lying around, and a little creativity, you will have the slickest pen press out there!! And it doesnt need to cost you anymore money!! I know some of you might laugh at this, but its better than a $40.00 pen press sitting around that I might not use. I dont mind buying things, but I dont really want to dump a bunch of money into pen making tools that maybe later on down the road I wont use. Anyways, hope you all have a great week.
