it actually happened twice,anfter shaping/finishing the outside/foot then holding the foot with an expansion grip on the chuck.
i got a catch while hollowing out the inside. i was able to use CA glue on the foot that time and wasnt too bad( i did have to resand and polish the whole outside cause ca dripped down the sides)
but the next catch completely smashed the rim and ripped off half the foot..t didnt seem like a really big catch but i guess anything all all is enough when turning on just a foot-hold. you can see the catches in the top left.
am i making my foot too small?any tips on chucking for doing the inside?
do we always make the foot or outside first then reverse?this wood is ver straight grain as u can see,maybe its just inherently difficult to chuck with this orientation?
was thinking since i didnt turn away the center where the screw goes i might be able to turn down past the broken rim then turn a new foot and salvage a smaller shallow bowl or dish from this.worth a shot i guess...
