I can't add much to what the others have said (not to mention that I'm a beginner myself), but ... if you do run across some firwood, be cautious if you grab a piece of dry hickory. It is VERY hard. Takes very sharp tools and going into the end grain can be a chore. At least that's been my experience with it.
