Looks very nice Dick...also like your first one you did.
Okay...potentially dumb question....I am landlocked person here in Colorado...the Boston Whaler seat......an actual seat like to sit on? With what little I know, some "sea" terminology is not as it may appear.
Boston Whalers are a line of boats first introduced in 1958 and have been in continuous production since then. They are very popular in coastal ares and the Great Lakes due to the fact that they are unsinkable.
Many of the models had bench seats made from 1" (finished) mahogany 13" wide with many coats of varnish. A sight to behold.
Here is a picture of mine, it's a 1999 and has no wood but will give you an idea of the style. this is a 17' but Whalers have been available from 9' to 34' over the years.
Thats a beauty Dick (The BW.) Thats a nice perk of living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Just made smoked salmon fettucine tonight as a matter of fact from troll caught salmon in the feezer since fall. Thats is one of my to die for dishes. Someday you will see me with piece of cardboard by the freeway, "I will cook for wood."
Anyway, back to the thread topic, Nice stopper there Dick!

I would love your company, or any other forum member, on a fishing trip.
Sorry to say, due to health problems now pretty well corrected, I had to sell the boat as I couldn't use it and couldn't stand to see it sitting in the driveway unused.

That's okay Dick, you see this mudder dude is not a real seafarer. Truth be told, ole mudder would get seasick in the bathtub, that's why he takes only showers. [:0] Now if ya got a set of waders and a fly pole I'll meet ya at the stream side and we'll gently roll those casts. Delicately placing the fly in the exact spot where we believe the fish is. Waiting.........Waiting.......Waiting for the little blip and the tell tale sign that the fish has sucked that fly in from below, a quick raise of the rod tip and FISH ON!!..... a good fight and we gently slip the net under the majestic river dweller. Unset the hook, give him a few moments to recover and then let him go to live and perhaps fight us another day.
Alternate ending:
same story up to the point where we unset the hook then we.
Unsinkable? There have been others that have claimed that
Do you find that that type of bottle stopper sticks well in the bottle? I got some from Pennstate that have black rubber and they seem to want to pop out.
Jim, that Texas moonshine will de-chrome a cadillac. You'll pobably have to special order those stoppers.
Good looking stopper. The fact that the wood has a history makes it that much more valuable. I've owned a few ratty flat bottom John boats and those stoppers would have helped to make them useable. They certainly weren't unsinkable. Unfloatable would have been the correct term to use.
Nice thread here with some good stories.

Mudder
Somebody mention FLYFISHING????
Now your talkin'.........ya get a 2lb trout on a skimpy light weight leader/rod.....get him out of the protection of a cove or under a rock..and then he runs into some strong current....trying to get away....and you have an honorable battle on your hands! Then the dream comes around of getting a 5-8lbr on the line........now who's the boss? LOL
Whaler....thanks for the explanation....that's cool stuff. Really like the story associated with it.
The stopper fits well and isn't going to fall out. The only problem I encountered was after drilling the blank and threading it onto the mandrel the hole is larger than the threads on the stopper. A liberal amount of thick CA solved this.
A little more on Boston Whalers.
I was sales manager for a marina in Anchorage in the mid 80s and took the line on, I fell in love with them. After moving to Seattle I was parts manager for several years at the Boston Whaler/ Sea Ray dealership here.
