    chuck question

I'm a beginner and I have 2 chucks. One is a Stronghold by Oneway. I've used it and like it. The other is a Nova Chuck 50mm. The Nova is New in the Box.

Is there any reason why I would ever need both of these? I'm thinking of selling the Nova to put towards some other tools.

    Which chuck is better?

Also, I have a Craftsman 6.5" 4 jaw chuck. Is that worth keeping either if I have these nicer chucks?

    Thanks,,

    chuck question.....

I would not be in any hurry to sell either of those chucks if it were me.
It seems as if you don't always have enough chucks when in the middle of a project, a spare one around is better than not having one and needing it.

Having two good chucks set up for a bowl turning may be the fastest way
to switch from outside to inside turning and not having the blank get out
of round in the process and having to get everything centered up again.

To quote the sage, Forrest Gump: "Sometimes, there just aren't enough chucks..."

      Agree completely with eezlock's advice...

If you are a person who only does one thing - with one project - one step at a time - you still can benefit from an extra chuck. It sure is nice to have at least 3, IMO. Each one set up with different jaws really helps. It is a pain to have to switch jaws in the middle of a project.

Having multiple chucks is sure nice. As others have said, changing the jaws is a time-consuming irritation.

If you plan on doing work that requires a range of jaws, it might be nice to have the same brand of chucks that use the same jaws. However, having one chuck to one set of jaws is even better -- but a bit more pricey.

I have three 4 jaw chucks and at times I wish I had another.

Chucks are like routers or clamps...

The Nova jaws fit the OneWay -- the pin on the OneWay jaws keeps them from working perfectly on the Nova chuck.
