Purpleheart - final turning

This is the last of a good size block of purpleheart I was given. The design is to match an existing column on a standard lamp. Dimensions are 13" column height, 8" base. Finish is cellulose sanding sealer, followed by Rustins two-part, then burnishing cream.

Purpleheart is a beautiful wood. You did it proud.

My son was over yesterday and showed an interest in penturning. He and I made a pen together. He chose Purpleheart and it came out fantastic!

I've discovered that your tools need to be really sharp, so for a big bowl or major project, expect to be at the sharpener at least once. Can be a bit on the "grabby" side, but otherwise not too bad.
