Finally made something that Ken has not!

    HA!

I'll bet that hump never made a corncob pen!

One thing I learned on this project, I still have much more to learn.

Feedback please? Good and bad. this is my first corncob.

I gotta make one of those! That is a pen to talk about. Bet you could sell a million through the "corn belt". That could be the next "Pet Rock" if nothing else . . . And you would be rich!

My ancestors would probably roll over in their grave laughing though. They used to use them for something else beside corn cob jelly and pipes!

Humm I don’t know, just a little Corny for me!

Ok, now that it is out of my system, Looks good and I bet you will get a bunch of nice comments about it. How much CA did you use to stabilize it? Real nice work on the fit and finish, everything is mated well. Nice job Scott!

GREAT SCOTT! Have I now seen it all? That is a unique one for sure. Where did you get it? Surely its not a run of the mill cob. I guess it would be flour if it actually was. [)]

            It's a regular old cob.
Actually came from a bag of Squirrel cob you buy from Wal-Mart.
I cannot claim this as an original idea as the guys on the penturning forum have been doing this for a while.

            Ken,

The only CA used was that which glued it onto the brass tube. I actually vacuum stabilized it with fast drying Poly which still was wet inside after almost a month! This was by far the most difficult pen I have ever turned.

            Hank,

Bet it was a killer is anyone had a hemorrhoid [}]

Nice pen. Gotta try one, the field beside the new house will be filled with cobs the year after next -- the owner alterates Corn and soy ( turn one of those will ya). I think this year crop has already gotten too soggy to do much with.

My Dad tells a story of when he was a boy he was helping his Uncle pack for a trip to the hospital -- The Uncle was cramming the suitcase with cobs to take to the hospital with him 'til my Dad explain everything to him.

BTW my Dad had a pacemaker implanted yesterday and is doing great. He's 82 and stills goes down to the Studio every day and lugs the camera around to take pix at Wedding and reunions..

Tried to dye it blue with Solar-Lux but that did not work so well. The actual finish is 10 coats of Hut Crystal coat and 2 coats of a brand new product called Trade Secret for Wood (TM). I can't say enough about TSW, it's the best pen finish I have seen and it smells good to.
