    Finished early.

Well I made a couple of boxes today but now I have to go change the wife’s brake pads. Wish I was not so cheap and had a brake place do it but I just can’t stand to spend that money for something that simple.

I am also trying something completely different in that I took the pictures outside in the shade. I am working and researching how to take better inside pictures of my turnings and so far I am not happy so I tried outside.

This first one is a simple design made of Ash. The box is 3” wide by 4-1/2” tall.

This one is Black Walnut with Birdseye Maple 2-1/8” Wide by 7-1/4” tall. I bought a bag of the Birdseye maple pen blanks so I will probably make several finials out of this wood.

    Thanks for having a look.

    Wonderful work Kenneth

    The bottom one is spectacular.

I'm in phase 1 of the great turning studio debacle.
Cleaned the spare room out and phase 2 is moving the puter and cleaning out this crap hole so I can move the Lathe in.

Very nice Ken. The second one is really cool, but for some strange reason I am really drawn to the first one.

Beautiful, as usual, Ken. I'm impressed with the way the shape of the first one mirrors the grain pattern on the bottom of the box! Very nice!

Well thank you Karen! Belive it or not that was my intention. Ash to me is very much like Oak with the steaks of porous grain running through it. Kind of makes it hard to turn as these darker grain sections tear out pretty badly. You have to keep the tools very sharp and be really mindful of your presentation. When I roughed this one to round I saw that pattern appear and just went with it. The top and finial are loosely represented from the large dark area in the bottom of the oval. I have learned not to plan anything until I get the wood roughed down because I will probably change my mind.
