    More Coffee Scoops

Two of my last scoops ended up in a local gift shop with an order for three more. They are going to package them in a gift set with a pound of their coffee.
These are Purple Haze, Cappuccino and Deep Purple

Those are really neat looking. That purple acrylic is nice stuff. Where did you get the Scoop Kits.

Dick, those are gorgeous. The deep purple is my favorite.

The scoop kits are from PSI and the blanks from Woodcraft.

I don't normally get by this way (the turning forum) as I don't and don't have a clue and I stay very busy elsewhere but... I just happeed to drop in and all I can say in this case is those spoons are Outstanding in looks. Frankly... I wasn't even aware that you guys used acrylics or however you spell it. Dah...

My first impression was that can't be wood and once I read the post I realized that obviously I just learned that more than wood gets turned. Again.. I don't know when I might drop in on turning but... keep up the outstanding work as you have here.

              Regards....

Sarge, take a turning class at Woodcraft. You may find you're better than you think, and then over the edge you'll go...

Well, LOML was looking over my shoulder when I was reading this. Pointing to the purple one she asked what it was. Being a bit grouchy I suggested she read the text..... The result was, 'Why don't you make me one of those'. The short answer is I don't have a lathe. So if your marketing your work I apparently am now in the market for one in purple. If not, then it's a good reason for me to get a lathe. Hmm lets see, learning curve equals Christmas 2012 if the end of the world doesn't happen on the 21st.

Bill, who enjoyed the walk out to the Sequim Lighthouse, the walk back was another matter what with the tide coming in.

My concern would be the time factor Uncle Crack, as I am always up to my neck with carcass work. I have had a DW 788 SS for two years and just got to use it just the other day. The bad news is I liked to use it and will have to fit it into the schedule.

I know some that got a lather and basically abandoned doing much other WW as they like it so much. I'm afraid that could happen and it would be hard to justify all the machinery I have invested in to the LOML and rightfully so..

I did get to play with a lathe a little at the International WW Fair in August where I was demonstrating Steel City machines. Aaron Sapp, who is a co-owner of the Nashville, Tn. Woodcraft was at the Show by Steel City request to demonstrate turning on their lathes.

So.. he showed me some basics and I will say.. I did get caught up in all the chips flying. I really didn't make anything but I could just stand there all day making chips fly and making a big blank a small blank in turn. I'm not sure why as there was no real purpose or end goal but... just the chips flying was a great satisfaction for some reason or another.

This spring I am going to field test the new Steel City Variable speed drill press. I may ask to borrow the new granite lathe they have to try as I have given some thought to a lathe but really don't have time. But.. as with the scroll saw.. it is something I do want to get familar with before I turn out the lights for the last time in my shop.

                      Maybe....
