    A New Toy

I have been having a problem getting a drill chuck for the lathe that doesn't have a ton of runout and my Nova Midi chuck won't close enough to grip my stopper mandrel.
I ordered a Barracuda micro chuck from PSI and it came this afternoon. I haven't turned anything with it yet but I did put it on and checked the runout. If I read the dial indicator right it's .003".

Neat little toy. Does that grip pen blanks and do you need an adaptor for 1"X*tpi shaft on my Delta Midi lathe? Looking for something to hold my pens while drilling the hole for the tube on the Lathe.

The chuck comes with 3 sets of jaws which allows an OD grip of 3/16" to 1 1/2".
It is set for 1" 8tpi and comes with an adaper for 3/4" 16tpi.

Thanks Dick, that the one for me. Someone on the IAP site recomended the CSC300C but that is a little pricey for me right now.

I think you'll like it, Dick. I use a mini 'Cuda CSC500 on my Jet mini (nearly the same chuck, but uses a key). It's so smooth and quiet, I can hardly tell it's spinning. Runout also imperceptible. I love it. PSI doesn't tell you, but their 5" Cole jaws also fit the mini. You might want to get a set if you want to do small bowls.

Nice! There's nothing like the relief when you measure low runout on the newly purchased chuck! (Especially once you've been on the opposite end of that experience )

              Regards,
              Tom
