    Turned Bird House my first

    I turned this little diddy and did not have to blow up 2 or three versions before completing one. I first built a 1" jam chuck, and drilled the top and bottom with a forstner bit. Chucked them up and turned away.

    The bird house is 4 1/2" tall about 2" in diameter at the widest Bottom is red oak top is walnut, finished with Hut Crystal Coat, a gift this week. As always comments and critiques are welcome

    Here is the second;

    Walnut burl base, red oak top, maple perch about 3 1/2 tall and 2 1/2 in diameter. Finished with Paste Wax.

    Very nice design and execution. I will need to make some of these.

    BTW, how did you like the Crystal Coat. I've used it on several pens and it always feel a bit tacky to me, I know I've got to be getting it hot enough since I've gone so far as to make my fingers burn a bit :0. Just curious as to your impression.

      My first experience with this stuff. It still feels tacky to me. I am waiting to see if sets up well!

        You have a fine touch with the chisels, very nice work. I can't wait to finish our new home and spin up the lathe to make some pens and now, thanks to you, some birdhouses. Thanks for the inspiration! Will save your post for a point of reference of excellent work. Nice contrast of wood. Make more and post em, really nice.
