Now I Know Why I Like Turning

Of all the new skills I've learned in woodworking, so far this is the easiest. I managed to produce some pretty decent looking (IMO) pieces within a few minutes of picking up a tool. I also like the feedback - I was getting instant feedback if the gouge was at the wrong angle or I was feeding too fast, etc. Of course I haven't suffered my first blowout yet either.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.

I like easy too. I just wouldn't like the extra cost.

Ya, that beautiful piece of thuya burl that cost a small fortune and took hours to stabilize and work down within minutes of the finishing phase, and then a barely perceptible slip of the skew, and bang!... pieces everywhere...

(At least, I think that's how it happens... )
