While avoiding the stink of finish drying on a couple of other projects, I started playing on the lathe. I needed to salvage my "creative reputation" after posting the LOML shavings tree. So here was the result from a chunk of glued up poplar blank. I turned a Christmas Tree to offset the shavings tree. Here is the result

I turned the last piece a relatively flat disc shape and parted off the point. I sketched the star points and cut the waste away with a coping saw and carving chisel, then sanded.
I need to find something better than a coping saw for this work.Often in error - Never in doubt

This is cheating a little, but you could cut the star on a bandsaw or back saw and then glue it on top of the tree. That's what I would do anyway.David
