Motivated by an 11 year old!

Surfing around another WW site yesterday, I found a link to video of an 11 year old boy turning a celtic knot pen. The video was a class project that he shot and edited himself. In a word, AMAZING! I did a keychain and a slimline as practice yesterday, and below is the cigar pen I turned today. I'm happy with the results. The woods are cherry and walnut.

      Your pen turned out great.

I saw that on the other forum. Man, that kid is something.

How about a link to the video--or link to the other forum with the link? I would like to see that.

Imagine my surprise that while browsing the forums today I see this post. "Hey, that's my son!!!" I am absolutely shocked at how his video has traveled around the world. On his YouTube channel he has hits from over 30 countries.
                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9uQv5sKibk,
he's been in the local newspaper and next Tuesday he will be on the local television news!

Here is a shot of his latest Celtic Knot. It is a European style pen in big leaf maple burl with a walnut and aluminum knot.

Alex started turning pens about 18 months ago as a means to raise money for college.

                      George,
Your son puts me so shame!

But I must say, I've never seen a video on how to do a celtic knot, and it looks a lot easier than I thought it was. (not easy, mind you. easier).

I have got to try that myself, but I'll have to use my tablesaw since my bandsaw is definitey not ready to be set up yet.

                      Thanks for the link Bluzcat!
