    Just Firewood?

I felled a dead oak a few months ago that was dead for several months - bark was falling off. The stump that is left is approx. 22" in dia. and is about 24" high. In the interests of fall project planning, is any of this salvageable as turning blanks? I will be cutting it in pieces to get it out anyway but don't have to be as particular about it if it is just firewood.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.

You can always try to make some bowls out of it. Or burry it in sawdust/leaves an see if you can get some spault going.

While oak may not be the most desirable turning wood (pretty plain character), it ain't all bad.

If at first you don't succeed, deny you were trying in the first place.

The coarse grain and open pores make it less suited for delicate items. But it turns OK.

There can be some really interesting burl-like figure though in the trunk near (or even in) the roots.
