I love the tulipwood, Tom. Ever try angle-cutting the TW blanks? Makes the grain pop out the side for some really stunning contrast...

Tom,
Wow what an improvement the picture came out great, in focus and nice contrast against the background. I see you used a sweep, it really makes a difference doesnt it. If only you could control the DoF more you could get the background to blur which would make the pen stand out even more. I can see a new camera making its way onto your most wanted list sometime soon.
Oh yes - then pen is beautiful too

What is a sweep?
I am using 3, 23w CFL for lighting. Still going to play a little. In that picture the camera was set on the lowest picture quality 1 * good so I didn't have mess with it before uploading. I am going to try the next best setting and see what that looks like. Thanks again for the help. BT3 Central has always been helpful and is great in helping me spend my hobby money. I don't think a new Camera is in the offering at the moment. LOML has other plans. I am turning some bottle stoppers when I get tired of pens. Will take some pictures of them as soon as I make stan to display them on. I took some picture of some model cars I made before the Carpel Tunnel stopped me. They came out real good will post them some time.

The "sweep" is the curved backdrop that eliminates the hard lines if you have a 90 degree angle.John

Improving the quality will definatley help although more for when you try and print them. These settings usually do a couple of things. 1)reduce the resolution and 2)increase the compression which can introduce "artifacts."
If you should consider a new or "newer" camera look for one that has the ability to control things more with at least an "A" aperture priority mode and preferable also with a manual setting. You dont have to spend $1000s for a multi lens setup some of the compact cameras have these features and you can find them on CL - but NOT in the TOOLS section
