    Wood Magazine Toothpick Holder

Here is my version of the current issue of Wood Magazines Toothpick Holder. It was fun to turn and I'll probably turn some more... going to glue up some laminations for them (primarily because I don't have anything that would start at 3" in diameter that is dry!). If you make one, pay more attention to the "cup" part. The cup needs to be a bit more than 1/4" deep... and it needs to fit a little better so that errant toothpicks that fall out of the cup won't stick between the cup and wall. I don't know what the wood for the body is... I got it on a trip to Phoenix at a place that imports wood... (running around with Bill Myers). It's light and rather porous. The cup is Burr Oak and finial is Blue Mahoe.

Here is also a picture of the hair picks I made for LOML... Sycamore and Wenge. There is a Tulipwood and Purpleheart set hiding somewhere (i.e. she didn't want to go upstairs and get them )

Very nice work! I'm not a turner, but read most of that Wood article anyway because it looked like an interesting and challenging project.

          Also, you take great photos!

Thanks everybody... these are fun projects... just have to get some stock big enough to do some more.

Don, I'm still workin' on the "figuring out" ... btw, I'm got to Grand River Hardwoods this Saturday (to get my "hunk 'o Pecan").. need me to pick up anything for you? I'll be through Shawnee Sunday taking the daughter back to school.

Mike, I saw the picture while looking at the magazine and tried for the longest time to figure out how they did the whole matching grain lid thing without reading it. Had to give up and read the article (and you can watch the video's on Woods website). Thank you for the photo comment... I love to do outdoor (nature) photography and now I've been adding some travel type photography since we got the Goldwing... you can see some of it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/7444579@N02/

Thanks for the offer but I've got a small truck load of stuff I've got to go up and pickup. Besides Gail wouldn't want to miss a chance to check out the Tulsa JoAnn's and I can check out the WoodCraft + we both will be looking forward to fudge from the Amish Cheese House

Where do you find blue mahoe? Or even red mahoe?
