    Can Anyone Help with some INFO

    I was recently given a cummins wood lathe #3253 that is all metric With my new toy, I decided to give turning a try. I have been having a blast making shavings and dust, which leads me to my dilema.... While shopping for supplies to start turning pens and other such small projects, I found that NO ONE carries a mandrel that will fit this particular lathe. According to the only information available in the online manuals (didn't get one with the lathe - it's used of course), the solid main shaft has a 3/4 x 10 T.P.I. I put a micrometer on the main shaft and it measures .690" at the o.d. of the thread. The lathe tip maesures slightly less thatn that for the i.d. Neither of these measure up to 3/4". The identification tag with machine information is all metric. Which leads me to believe that the main shaft and threads are also metric.

    Has anyone else encountered this dilema and how did you solve it? Or did I manage to get the only metric morphadite lathe out there?

    That lathe pop’s up in conversations from time to time and I even think it has been discussed here under various brand names. Anyhow you should be able to get what you need by first buying a spindle adapter such as the one from PSI that will take you from your 10TPI spindle to a more common 1” X 8TPI spindle;

    You can then also purchase your mandrel from them;

    Anyhow, that will get you turning pens.
