A TIP here: There are some woods that are very brittle and even with the most care, will blow out 40, 50, 60% of the time if drilled all the way through. For that reason, on brittle woods, it is recommended to cut the blank about 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch longer than necessary and drill to close to the end but not all the way through. After doing this, remove the blank from the vise and cut the end off. Saves a lot of blow outs on gnarly burls and brittle wood like snakewood.
