    Sharpening Jig

Being new to turning the whole idea of sharpening has been kind of confusing, I have read alot on the subject here and in mags and tool catalogs. And have learned alot. I just got a bowl gouge and now had to figure out how to make a proper grind. These pictures show what I came up with. It is a cheapo immitation of what I saw in tool catalogs. The base is a couple of scraps of hard wood with a 45 on the long edge the block The top has a T nut for the set screw, the angle iron slides in and out to set the bevel angle. The fingernail jig is just a small block of hard wood with a length of iron rod set at a 60. It has a set screw tapped into the side to hold the gouge. I am sure it is not as good as the brand name store bought one but it seems to work and only cost a couple of bucks.I turned a bowl with the grind I achieved and it seemed to work well.

I would be glad to get some advice from other members
I also found website with a bunch of turning tip
