Wood gloat - I don't get to do this often

I have a buddy that commutes on train with me that carves gun stocks.

Well in exchange for making him a pen and pencil set he gave me a bunch of his "scraps"

English Walnut, Claro Walnut, a piece of Turkish Walnut that looks to have a bit of curl.

Curly Maple and a great piece of bird'seye maple.

The piece that I'm to use for the set in accross the top, but I have no clue what it is. For the life of me it looks like the curliest piece of Walnut sapwood I've ever seen.

That is some great looking wood. A very worthy gloat indeed.

    Respectfully, YOU SUCK!!!

I concur with David's opinion! I save cut-offs from interesting woods for use as inlays.

I disagree. That wood looks terrible. Send it to me for proper disposal.

        Seriously, very nice.

Good score! The wood he wants a pen and pencil set from appears to be fiddle back maple. Does not look dark enough to be walnut. In all the walnut I've seen, and based also on my understanding on what causes fiddleback the sapwood of walnut does not show this figure. This is my observation and I could be wrong.
