See the link below for my review of the JET 1220, including looks at the extension bed and full stand with lots of photos and a video.

I was checking those out earlier. Seems a little beefier and has indexing. Nice option as mid-size lathe.

        Thanks for the review Tom.
I was about to buy a 1014 but think I might wait for the 1220.

FYI: the new 1014's (1014I) also have indexing on botht he VS and standard models. We will be doing reviews of those in the near future also.

So, other than the poorly-placed spindle lock, it's the same unit with the tinsel of a gooseneck lamp and some questionable-use handles which look to really get in the way of the bottom door.

              I scored a brand new Jet 1220 today for $295.00 +tax.
Very impressive lathe for a bench top, With that larger frame it dwarfs the 1014.

The spindle lock is easy to get to and use where it is located, I don't see a problem.
The handle is located above the lower belt door and slides in and out, there is no interferance with the door.

Thanks for the tip on Equipment Sales and Surplus, they are the only Jet dealer in the area that had one.

                the specs are slightly different.

10 inch swing and 14 inch between centers for the 1014 and 12 and 20 respectively for the 1220. So it may be the biggest of the midis now, the PSI tunrcrafter was 10 and 18 I think.

The 1220s are out ? And the price is only $295. ? I can't find any 1220's on the "Equipment Sales and Surplus" site. Mind sharing how you got this deal?

I called all of the Jet dealers in the Seattle area and they were the only one that had it in stock. I asked how much and was quoted $295.00, he said that he only had one and had just unboxed it for display but would sell it to me.
You have to call them as the web site doesn't list everything that they have 1-866-831-0722.

The Jet sales flyer coming out 9-1-07 has it for $329.99 at participating dealers.
I posted a copy of the ad in Bargain Alerts a couple days ago.

Tom, You mention that the "new" 1014I will include indexing (I'm assuming that's what the "I" is for), do you know if the older 1014's will be able to be retro-fitted?

I don't have the direct answer to your question but I remember a guy named Fred on penturners.org makes a nice indexing kit for the Jet 1014.

                          Hey Scott

Thanks for the heads up on that, but evidently my penturners.org forum searching skillz suck I can't seem to find anything on there referencing an indexing kit... I'll continue to look...

                          * Edit * a few minutes later....

Fred in NC on penturners.... he's got quite a few cool gizmo's. doesn't look like he's posted anything in a while, but I emailed him to see what he's got available... again, thank you for the info.
