    barrel trimmer question

okay, I have a 7mm barrel trimmer that came with my slimlines. I can use it for the designer series pen without a problem, but the pencil is an 8mm tube. So this begs the question.

With all the various tube sizes out there (7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 27/32, etc.) do you need a barrel trimmer to fit each one or what?

You can buy barrel trimmer kits. They have different sizes of center inserts that you change out depending on the tube size. IIRC, for the 8mm tube, mine came with an adapter sleeve that goes over the 7mm center insert.

You might try using a 7mm brass tube from the slimline kit as an adapter sleeve. It might be close enough to work. Before I had my kit, I used an unfinished slimline blank as a spacer for my first 10mm cigar pen. I glued the brass tube inside & turned it down until it fit the 10mm tube.

I have the PSI kit that has inserts from 7mm-10mm, but for the larger pens (baron's, gents, etc.) I do what jking does. I use a 7mm tube and glue it into a piece of cutoff from another pen blank and turn it down so the outside diameter fits inside the larger tube. I then mark and store that insert with the kit's bushings so they don't get misplaced.

See, this is why I hang out around here. A simple solution to a problem.

Extra brass is cheap compared to $35 for a kit that only addresses 3 extra sizes.
